Soul of the Seasons turns 18!

Soul of the Seasons turns 18 years old today. I try to imagine back to the beginning when I was in college and first started this website, under a different name¹, on Geocities.  I think it moved to a different Geocities ‘area’ before moving to Roninweb, then my first domain cakuni.com, and finally it’s own domain name.

My first ever image from the series was made possible by a digital camera². (Image posted below.) This was mid 90s so digital cameras were bulky back then and expensive. I remember the square memory card you had to use. And you had to put that in a card reader on your PC or connect a cord from the camera to the PC to access the pictures. So yup I froze screenshots on my VHS tape and then used the camera to get a digital copy to upload. Mostly if I wanted images back then, it had to be artwork that I scanned up on one of the few scanners my college had. (In a special small computer lab no less.)

Dais/Rajura, Sekhmet/Naaza, and Cale/Anubisu

I kind of miss the days back then. I would chat on IRC with other fans. I would print out fanficiton to read. (Because I got eye strain from reading from a monitor for too long.) Once I got real lucky and met a Ronin Warriors fan in person who was also at the time running a fansite for the series. These days, alas, the fandom has shrunk drastically and it’s left me feeling very lonely. I miss all the online friends I had to chat with back then. Many of them I have completely lost contact with. 🙁 I wish I knew how to return some of that old spark I miss so much.

But I best not dwell too long down that road or I’ll get depressed. And this is a day to celebrate, to be nostalgic, and remember all the years fondly. And to be very grateful for the fans that have stuck around over all these years.

And I decided to wear gray and black today as a subtle nod to the Dark Warlords/Mashou. (That’s the colors of their armor symbols.)

“It has begun..” – YouTube Video
(Because you can’t embed a YouTube video starting at a certain time.)

Does this mean at year 20 I finally get my own shakujo? (Please don’t say I have to wait for my 25th year. :/)

1. The website was originally published as Archdruid Unacera’s 3 Dark Warlords page, dedicated to Cale, Dais and Sekhmet since at the time the info for them was either very little or incorrect. Eventually I added Anubis and it became Archdruid Unacera’s Dark Warlords Page. Finally I renamed the website to Soul of the Seasons since it was more fitting by then.
2. The digital camera belonged to my mother. She wasn’t using it. Hadn’t for some time. It just sat in a box in the hallway at home. So I borrowed it, with my father’s permission, to use it. Of course when my mom found out she got upset and insisted I put it back before something happened to it. So it sat again in that same box, not being used. *Sighs.*

FYI: I’ve been a fan since Ronin Warriors came on the air the summer of 1995.

Website Update 10/5/14

Many MANY thanks to the owner/webmaster of the site Welcome to Edo. They emailed me translations for ALL of the unknown doujinshi titles. So the information has been updated and added to the doujinshi pictures page. So for the moment there no longer is an unknown title doujinshi page! Whohoo! I am still completely blown away by all of this. That was a lot of time and effort to do and I am eternally grateful for it.

Also 2 notes.

  1. Sekhmet/Naaza’s birthday is coming up on the 8th. There’s also going to be a total lunar eclipse on that date!
  2. This webpage’s birthday is only 10 days away! O_O Where does the time go?!?

Minor Update 9/28/14

  • Added social media icons to the main page.
I have an RSS feed icon both for the blog here and for Soul of the Seasons’ Tumblr. (The blue icon is the Tumblr one.) That way if you want to follow my Tumblr but don’t have a Tumblr account, you can use that RSS feed.
  • Blog page was added in the menu under Soul of the Seasons.
Just a separate page to find all that stuff.
  • Added a submitted link to the links page.
    Welcome to Edo is back!!
  • Image use policy updated.
Since now all of my wallpapers have urls on them, I’ve adjusted the policy.
  • Cute chibi image added to Contact me page.
    Because it was fun. ^_^
  • Submit a link form updated.
Added a field to enter your website’s name. Oops. Sorry I missed that.

Website Update 9/14/14

I’ve been busy over the week and especially this weekend updating both the Doujinshi Pictures page and the Unknown Title Doujinshi page. I was able to find some information on some doujinshis that were on the Unknown Title page, and with that I was able to figure out what some of the titles were. So some of these were moved to the regular Doujinshi Pictures page. Yay! I was especially grateful to find info on that one Anubisu doujinshi that drove me crazy because all references to its title were in stylized/script kanji writing. No luck at all trying to puzzle that one out on my own.

In other news, despite removing the majority of the contents on this site’s old URL, I was still running out of room. So I went to my hosting provider, A Small Orange, and live chatted with them late last night asking about changing my hosting plan to a larger sized one. They had me fill out a ticket, which I did around 10:30pm. By 9:50am today they had already taken care of it. They created the invoice and all I had to do was to pay it for upgrading my hosting space. Not even 12 hours after my request. On a weekend. On a SUNDAY! I am thoroughly impressed with their speed in responding to this and how easy they made this change for me. I cannot praise them enough. I don’t know if they’ll ever read this but many thanks. You guys are awesome! So in summary I highly recommend A Small Orange for a hosting company/provider.

With that, please enjoy the new content. ^_^

Soul of the Seasons has moved to a new URL!

If I’ve seemed quiet lately it’s because I’ve been busy with my fan site. I have been working behind the scenes to change from using Dreamweaver to edit my site to using WordPress. The easiest way to accomplish this was to spin off my fan site onto its own URL. So now my fan site can be located at www.souloftheseasons.com.

I’ll be working on removing content from the old URL and adding links to where the new pages can be found.

I had hoped to have this done by my site’s birthday on October 15th. I’m happy to have exceeded that goal. This has been a lot of work for me and I hope you enjoy the results.

cakuni.com is planned to become just personal page ‘stuff’. It too will eventually switch to WordPress. But for now, I’m happy to present the latest redesign of Soul of the Seasons. To all of my fans and visitors, especially those who have stuck with me over all these years, thank you. <3

Official rollout

Well I was hoping to add some more content before making this official. Unfortunately I stumbled upon a weeee snag. See this website’s old URL and this URL share the same hosting provider space. So due to the duplication of content going on right now, my space is running out. I need to roll out the new site live now so I can remove the content from the old URL and free up space.

My goal was to have the new site up by my site’s next birthday. I’m a month and a week early. Glee.

I think I’ve double-checked everything, but if anything is wonky or doesn’t load up, please use the contact page to let me know.

I hope you enjoy the new look.

Almost everything is up.

Series pictures are up. Wallpaper images are up. The only thing left are the settei and character reference images.

I believe that means the majority of my content has been re-uploaded to this new URL. Yay!

Once the last of the images listed above are up then I have to do behind some scenes work on this site. This includes checking to make sure all the links work properly. After that hopefully, crossing fingers, add some new content.

Phew! I’m tired. That was a lot of work.

Move to a new domain name!

Four Dark Warlords/Mashou and Kayura. Doujinshi image.

Youkoso!

Soul of the Seasons has moved to this new domain name. The main push for this was to switch from using Dreamweaver to WordPress to manage this fansite. It looked like using WordPress for multiple sites on one URL was going to be difficult. So I took the easy path of just finally spinning off this site. It’s been long overdue and something I couldn’t afford to do before now. As such as you can expect heavy construction going on. Images will be slow to upload since I have to update URLs on images and wallpapers. So please be patient with me.

Thank you and welcome to the new home of Soul of the Seasons!
