TV Series Discussion: “Your mother wears army boots”

mariesophiefrederikkedagmar:

Didn’t Ryo call Sekhmet’s mother a whore?

“Your mother wears army boots!“ (or “combat boots”). The implication is
that she must have got them by bartering sex with a soldier for clothes.
This particular one, referring to women in poor villages who would put
out in such a fashion, has become a Forgotten Trope
that has to be explained to a modern listener. Especially since a woman
who wears army boots these days is much more likely to be in
the army. If this insult is ever used unironically now, the implication
is probably that the insulter thinks the insultee’s mother is a lesbian,
in an inversion of Real Women Never Wear Dresses.

… And Ryo talks this way to someone who can “scorch the Earth” with his venom and the venom can eat through armor (eventually). Yeah taunt that guy.

I suspect Sekhmet being in the Netherworld for centuries had no idea what that phrase really meant, lucky for Ryo. Otherwise Sekhmet would be, “F*ck this. You’re dying NOW.”
