Website Update 7/8/15

  • Added a new Doujinshi title. I also added some back covers of some doujinshi I own, and one nice entire doujinshi cover image. (See 3rd volume of Holy Naaza Empire.)
  • Updated/Revised this Naaza wallpaper.
Wallpaper of cover of 3rd volume of Holy Naaza Empire.
Better image since I was able to scan it, better color background. Just much nicer looking. Please download the latest wallpaper version.
  • Please don’t forget to periodically check the fanart. I’m slowly posting what I find there. I’m still going through art found on Pixiv.net. For ease of loading, I’m showing the first 1 or 2 pieces of fanart as a preview for each post. Keep an eye out for any text saying, “** Click here to see more artwork from this artist. **” You’ll want to click on that to see the full blog post.

Sorry there aren’t more updates.

  1. I’m dealing with the sinus infection from hell. Over 2 weeks and I still have fluid behind my left ear. And I can’t take a decongestant because they have a stimulant and I’m very sensitive to stimulants.
  2. My husband is starting a new job next week. It involves a lot of travel. I’ve been spending time with my husband before he leaves. Also I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning in my free time. I need to get as much cleaning in as I can before my husband starts his job. That way I have one less thing to worry about or have to deal with. With my husband gone for work I’ll be just me taking care of our cats, cleaning, cooking, etc.

Once again thank you for everyone who visits this page, especially those who have contacted me and left really nice comments. I’m glad you enjoy my website. It’s especially nice to see all the visitors outside the US. 🙂 Thank you for your support.

Website Update 6/7/15

Sorry it’s been a while since my last update. Last month I was dealing with a lot of personal issues relating to my father’s passing earlier this year. Last month would have been his birthday. Also near the end of the month I did a fundraising walk for the National Kidney Foundation. We managed to have people donate enough money to raise $400 for our walk!

This month will probably also cause me some anguish. I have to change the radio station any time there’s a mention of Father’s Day. I have to delete emails from companies mentioning Father’s Day sales and the like. (I don’t dare look at them.) Besides that, I think I’m just managing to finally start to put my life back together. It’s enough that at least I’m at the point of sitting down again, scheduling things, and making plans. It helps that the seasonal farmers markets have started up in nearby towns, along with Food Truck night events as well. Getting out and having some fun really helps.

  • Added a new doujnshi title to the Doujinshi Pictures page.
  • Corrected/updated a title on the Doujinshi Pictures page.
  • Corrected some information on Cale/Anubisu’s info page. (Corrected translation of the name of the Mutsu province.)
All translation corrections were thanks to Welcome to Edo!
  • Put up my review of Discotek Media’s TV Series Collection of Samurai Troopers.
  • Started making Fanart blog posts and added that blog post category to my navigation menu. (See “Fanart.”) I have a long way to go for adding things. And right now the menu just has the category of Pixiv, for fanart I’ve found there. I’ve been making posts by artist and posting their Mashou and Kayura related fanart. We’ll see how it goes. I can tweak things later if I have to.

As always thanks for the views, comments, and support.

Review of Discotek Media’s Samurai Troopers TV Series DVD Collection

Click on the thumbnail to see the full-sized image appear in a new window/tab. (Images are hosted on my Imgur account.)

DVD Cover:

The width of the DVD case itself is just under 2 DVD cases. Just like the OVA set, the TV Series Collection comes with a slip cover that goes over it. See below for pictures of the front, back, side and top.

DVD Inserts:

Here’s what the inside of the case looks like. And this time there’s some artwork with it, which looks awesome! The artwork is on the reverse side of the DVD cover insert. Great job Discotek Media!

I also made a wallpaper of that artwork and posted it on my DeviantArt account.

Disc Menus:

Again, moving your cursor over a selection turns the Rekka/Wildfire armor symbol red. Selected options use that gold circle you see under the “Play all.”

The Video:

I’ve only watched the first disc so far, but the video looks great! I watched the episodes with my husband and he agreed it looked really nice. I haven’t noticed any ghosting so far that plagued the first episode of Gaiden in the OVA set.

Although I will say the subtitles are exactly the same as the original Bandai release. I played both videos side by side on each of my monitors to confirm this. So if you were one of the fans hoping for new subtitles on this release, no such luck.

In Summary:

Some of you who already have the TV Series DVDs from Bandai may be wondering if it’s worth the cost to purchase the Discotek Media edition. While of course the end result of that choice belongs to you, here some things to keep in mind.

  • Do your current DVDs have scratching or damage?
  • Single sided discs. Even if it’s only the Japanese language edition.
  • Do you want something that takes up a LOT less space?
  • Are you worried that the Discotek discs will eventually go out of print just like the Bandai ones did?
  • Are you a fanatic that just wants both the Bandai and Discotek Media TV series DVDs? (Which is perfectly fine by the way.)
  • Support the fandom by purchasing the TV Series DVD Collection. Also hopefully if the Samurai Troopers TV series collection sells well, Discotek will be able to get the licensing for the Ronin Warriors dub.
If the TV Series Collection doesn’t sell well, Discotek may just stop making it. And at that point I think it would be quite difficult to convince a third media company to pick up the series again.

And once again many thanks to Discotek Media for picking up this series.
